Natural Ways To Combat Acne

Acne is a skin condition that can appear for many reasons, including: clogged pores, diet, hormones, or lifestyle choices. There is no one cure to achieving clear skin, but there are several natural ways to combat acne naturally.

When approaching any skin ailment, we always suggest seeing a doctor. Acne can sometimes be a cause of an underlying health issue and in some cases require medication.

But, in the meantime, there are some changes you can make to your lifestyle and health that can be helpful for natural acne skin treatment. Being mindful of the products you use (free of harsh and chemical ingredients!) and the diet you keep can relieve symptoms of acne over time.

Below find our natural treatment product suggestions, tips, and more for acne-prone skin!

Skincare Tips to Naturally Combat Acne

  1. Wash skin twice a day with a gentle cleanser like our Tamanu Luxury Facial Cleanser. This will keep your skin free of the dirt and bacteria that can make skin oily, clog pores, and contribute to acne.
  2. Use a toner. Acne-prone skin doesn’t slough off dead skin cells efficiently, so exfoliate skin regularly with a non-toxic alpha-hydroxy toner like our Fruit Acid Toner. Dead skin cells can clog pores and interfere with the skin’s natural oil production. It's also important to note that this toner also has organic witch hazel and organic Aloe Vera, which both heal and soothe.
  3. Avoid irritating ingredients like Bismuth Oxychloride in your makeup. It can be an irritating ingredient and can lead to acne breakouts. Our Luxury Mineral Foundation and Get Even Finishing Powder are gentle and effective products.
  4. Drink more water. Water can help flush toxins from your body while allowing your body systems to work at their very best.
  5. Limit your consumption of dairy and sugar. Dr. Mark Hyman explains that a correlation between diet (i.e. dairy and sugar) and acne exists.
  6. Be gentle. Scrubbing your face or using harsh exfoliants can irritate acne breakouts and cause inflammation and redness. When cleansing, use warm water and pat skin dry.
  7. Be patient. Clearing up acne can take some time, so don't give up on your new routines or products. We typically see positive results within 4-weeks after adopting our products for natural acne skin treatment.

Make a Mud Mask

Customize a B Green Mud Mask to create a mask to boost your skin health with these clear-skin ingredients:

  • Coffee grounds or ground coffee. The caffeine in coffee grounds has antioxidant properties and can reduce inflammation. Find organic, fair trade beans and grind them on the fine or espresso setting before adding them to your mask.
  • Lemons. Both the peel of a lemon and its juice can be beneficial to the skin. Lemon juice is full of the antioxidant Vitamin C, has antibacterial properties, and contains alpha hydroxy acids making it a natural exfoliator. It also helps to extract toxins, brighten skin, and reduce discoloration.
  • Egg whites. Egg whites are full of protein, potassium, and riboflavin, which can tighten pores, tone, hydrate, and repair damaged cells. The whites of eggs also contain lysozyme, which is an enzyme that expunges the bacteria that has the potential to cause acne.
  • Mint. Chock full of Vitamin A, mint can strengthen skin, balance out oil production, and calm itchy skin. It is a natural astringent and it is a rich source of salicylic acid, which helps slough off dead skin cells.
