What is EWG VERIFIED™ and do you your products qualify?
Several of our products (with many more to come) have earned the EWG VERIFIED mark, which means the product avoids the Environmental Working Group's ingredients of concern, is committed to full transparency, and operates under good manufacturing practices. It also:
- Meets EWG's strictest criteria for transparency and health;
- Avoids ingredients that authoritative health bodies have flagged for potential health concern;
- Has labeling that fully discloses its ingredients;
- Uses adequate preservatives;
- Is free of contaminants; and
- Uses a manufacturer that follows good manufacturing practices
Are your products Gluten free?
To enhance your shopping experience, we have added a Gluten-free seal to the products that qualify so you can confidently purchase the products that are best for you.
All of our products are Gluten-free, with the exception of our Healing Hand Butter, which contain a very small amount of Wheat Germ Extract in its botanical blend. Though it's only a small amount, we are currently working to remove it as we did with our Carrot Facial Dream Cream in November 2013 and Tinted Moisturized in March 2014.
Are your products suitable for Vegans?
We have gone to great lengths to ensure that all our ingredients are animal product free and/or vegetable based to be suitable for vegans, and have placed this seal on our products to indicate just that. In some cases, you'll notice an asterisk next to this seal, which indicates that sustainably harvested Beeswax was used in the recipe.
Are your products are organic?
While we are have not yet received our USDA Organic Certification, we do use the highest percentage of Certified Organic ingredients possible in all our products. For example, we use Vitamin E in our products, which is not available in an organic form. The end result is that most of our products are at least 90% organic. Please see individual products for specific information.
Are Sally B's products cruelty free?
Yes! In fact, we received recognition from the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics for being cruelty-free, a value we have practiced since day 1. Never have we nor will we ever test our ingredients or products on animals!
What products are right for my skin type?
Everyone's skin is so uniquely different it is hard to know exactly what will work. We give an overview of what products are best for skin types here. However, experimentation is the name of the game when it comes to finding the right skin care regime. If you are new to the Sally B's collection, we recommend our Traveler. It has week-long-use samples of 6 of our most popular skin care products. This is a great way to test the line and see what works best for you.
Why do you list different ingredients on the website versus the product label?
We pride ourselves in being a company that is transparent with our ingredients. We are required to use INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) language on packaging, but because it's tough to understand, we opt to put the common name for each ingredient on the website. If you ever get caught up on what's what, check out our ingredient page and we list the common and INCI name of each ingredient.
For more information about product labeling, check out our blog about Product Labeling Standards.
Why should I use non-toxic products?
Our skin is a large, breathable tissue, absorbing everything that we lather on. Just like a transdermal medical patch (think Nicotine, testosterone or estrogen patches), whatever we put on our skin ends up in our bloodstream and entire bodies. The surprising truth about the skincare industry in the United States is that there is very little (and we mean very little!) government regulation on the ingredients used or packaging standards to require companies to list all ingredients. There are currently 12,500 ingredients used in skincare products, but the United States has tested only 11% and banned only 8. Tellingly, the European Union has banned 1,100 ingredients, labeling them as hazardous chemicals.
The average woman uses 12 personal care products a day (the average man uses 6) and from those products your body is exposed to more than 126 potentially toxic chemicals (and for men it's over 80), including carcinogens and hormone disruptors. Even though we use a small amount of these products each day, the cumulative exposure can be shocking to overall health. To ensure you're using the healthiest products for your skin and overall health, commit yourself to purchasing products made with natural and organic ingredients. Insist on knowing all the ingredients that are used in your skincare products and researching their toxicity on the EWG'S Cosmetics Database.
What do you mean when you say Skin Yummies are people and planet friendly?
Sally B's products are made with ingredients that are not harmful, but rather beneficial to your skin and overall health. We do endless research to ensure we avoid harmful, commonly used skincare ingredients, like parabens, bismuth, petroleum, and artificial fragrance. And just like Sally B's products are safe and non-toxic for the skin, they are also healthy for the planet. Every time you wash your face you are sending the runoff from your makeup down the drain and into our water ways, so by using non-toxic products you are ensuring that no potentially toxic chemicals are introduced to our natural systems.
When shopping for beauty products, what should I look for to ensure I'm getting a healthy product?
Because the skin care industry is not regulated by any governing body, product manufacturers are not required to list all their ingredients on their product packaging. This means it is up to us to self-police the industry. While we are busy researching ingredients - pointing out the harmful and using the beneficial - it's your responsibility to read labels of the products you are using. Discontinue using products with harmful ingredients and support the companies who go out of their way to create healthy products. We recommend that you avoid the following ingredients: Parabens, PEG, Ceteareth, Polyethylene, Sodium Laurel Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, DMDM hydantoin, Urea, Tricolsan (in liquid soap), Triclocarban (in bar and hand soap), Formaldehyde, Toluene, Dibutyl phtalate (DPB), Oxybenzone (in sunscreens), Retinyl palmitate (not to be confused with Retinol palmitate) and artificial fragrance/parfumes and colors.

Can you give more detail on Subscriptions?
The Subscription option allows you to schedule regular deliveries of products. When you choose this option, you get a 25% discount for the life of the subscription. No need for a special code. You will find that each product has the option to subscribe or make a one time purchase. It should be noted here that a discount code will not work on top of the discount that you are already receiving. Schedule and get regular deliveries of your favorites. Should you need a product sooner or wish to reschedule for any reason, go to your account and click on the order. You will see a link to your subscription. This will take you to all of your subscriptions and you can reschedule. Be sure to look at the top of the page at the various tabs to find exactly what you need.
What is the difference between Gift Cards & Discount Codes?
Discount codes are given in the rewards program but also, occasionally we will have some sort of promotion. It’s pretty straightforward but we should note here that only one discount code can be used in an order.
Gift Cards are a form of payment. You can use multiple gift cards on a purchase. And you can use a Gift Card as a form of payment even when you have already received a discount using a code. So check your emails and see the gift cards in your name.
